Documents Required for RC Transfer

Seller's documents: Original RC, valid insurance, PUC certificate, Form 28 (NOC), Form 29 (transfer application), Form 30 (possession report), ID proof, address proof. Buyer's documents: ID proof, address proof, passport size photos, Form 29 and 30.

Step-by-Step Process

1. Get the vehicle inspected at RTO. 2. Both buyer and seller fill Form 29 and Form 30. 3. Submit documents at RTO with transfer fee. 4. RTO verifies documents and processes transfer. 5. New RC issued in buyer's name within 7-15 days.

Online Process via Parivahan

Many states now allow initiating the transfer process online through parivahan.gov.in. You can fill forms, pay fees, and book appointment slots online. Physical verification at RTO is still required.

RC transfer fee varies by state and vehicle age. Typically ₹300-500 for transfer application fee plus state-specific road tax adjustment if transferring between states.

Important Tips

Always verify the vehicle's challan history before purchase. Check for hypothecation (loan) on the RC. Ensure the seller has an NOC from the financing bank if the vehicle was on loan. Complete the transfer within 14 days of sale.
